UNC Student Quinn Matney Files False Police Report
First….hate crimes legislation is unconstitutional–we cannot legislate thought. Second….if the police report was in fact false, the student should be kicked out of UNC, and should face some serious jail time. This only hurts those that are really attacked for being homosexual. What a disgrace!
UNC officials say a report filed by a student claiming he was assaulted because of his sexuality is false.
Chancellor Holden Thorp sent an email to faculty and students saying the alleged aggravated assault reported on April 5 was false and the University will not report it as a hate crime.
“It is important to recognize that incidents of harassment do occur. When they do, we take them seriously,” Chancellor Thorp wrote in the email. “We strive to foster a welcoming, inclusive and safe environment at Carolina.”
Quinn Matney reported to campus police that he was attacked during the early morning hours of April 4. He says he was walking on a foot bridge near Craige Residence Hall when he was attacked and burned on his wrist because he’s gay.
