Police in Connecticut on Sunday said they found what they believe is the body of a Yale University graduate student and bride-to-be hidden inside the wall of a university building where she was last seen five days before.

New Haven Assistant Police Chief Peter Reichard said officials presumed the body was that of doctoral student Annie Le, although they had not yet positively identified it. Le has been the focus of a massive police search since Tuesday.

Le, 24, of Placerville, Calif., was to be married Sunday in Syosset, N.Y., on Long Island’s north shore. New Haven police said they have contacted her family and have assumed control of the investigation, which is now being treated as a homicide.

State police found the body at around 5 p.m. Sunday in an area of the building that houses utility cables that run between floors.

Now there is some interesting news.  I wonder if that professor they were questioning earlier this week had anything to do with this?

A Johnston County woman is accused of setting her car on fire instead of letting the repo man take it.

Selma police say when employees of a Raleigh recovery firm tried to load Latonia Monroe Myers Nissan Maxima onto a wrecker, she got in and tried to drive it off – putting a hole in the gas tank in the process.

Officers say she then went inside her home, got a lighter, and came back and set the leaking gasoline on fire.

The car burst into flames with one of the repo workers inside. As he got out, Myers allegedly tried to hold the door closed.

The worker escaped with a minor burn on his arm.

Police have now charged Myers with felony burning personal property and felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Her car was destroyed by the fire.

She was being held in the Johnston County jail on $60,000 bond.

What a woman this is.  Almost killing a person because they were attempting to do a repo on a Nissan Maxima you were not making payments on?  Wow!  Latonia Monroe Myers, I hope you rot in jail.

Two Massachusetts teenagers have been killed in a fight stemming from a dispute over parking outside a party, authorities said, and three people have been arrested.

The Worcester district attorney said 18-year-old Nelson Geraldino was stabbed multiple times and 17-year-old Pedro Genoa was shot in the abdomen and suffered other injuries in the melee early Sunday morning in Fitchburg.

Genoa’s 18-year-old brother, Ronny Genoa, was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds, according to District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.

Two brothers who were injured, 22-year-old Orville Carrion and 27-year-old Jose Carrion, have been charged with murder and are being held without bail. Ronny Genoa has been charged with assault with intent to murder and mayhem.

It’s unclear whether any of the defendants have attorneys.

Wow!  This is plain rediculous.  A fight over a parking spot?  Life is too short for this sort of crap.

At the Children’s Research Lab at the University of Texas, a database is kept on thousands of families in the Austin area who have volunteered to be available for scholarly research. In 2006 Birgitte Vittrup recruited from the database about a hundred families, all of whom were Caucasian with a child 5 to 7 years old.

The goal of Vittrup’s study was to learn if typical children’s videos with multicultural storylines have any beneficial effect on children’s racial attitudes.

This study is amazing!  It is a must-read for everyone.

Deputies have charged a Rocky Mount man with the murder of one of six women found slain in Edgecombe County over the past four years.

Antwan Maurice Pittman, 31, is accused of killing Taraha Shenice Nicholson, 28. Her body was discovered in March near Marriott Road. The medical examiner said she’d most likely been strangled.

Pittman has a criminal record. According to the North Carolina sex offender registry, he was convicted in 1994 of taking indecent liberties with a 2-year-old. He was released from prison in April 1997.

Deputies say he’s been in the Nash County Jail since mid August on charges of driving with a revoked license and failing to register as a sex offender.

This dirt bag needs to be thrown into jail and left.

Former Duke lacrosse coach Michael Pressler can pursue a slander lawsuit against the university and its former spokesman.

Tuesday a North Carolina appeals court decided a trial court ruled correctly when it said Pressler’s obligation to arbitrate his slander and libel claims was voided by his settlement agreement with Duke.

Pressler was fired following a stripper’s false accusations in 2006 that three lacrosse players raped her at a team party. State prosecutors declared the accused players innocent.

The appeals court ruling means Pressler can pursue punitive damages and other penalties for disparaging comment he said former Duke spokesman John Burness made to the media.

I hope Mike Pressler sues Duke for everything!

Canadian police say fugitive murder suspect and reality show contestant Ryan Jenkins was found dead Sunday of an apparent suicide in a motel in British Columbia.

Sgt. Duncan Pound of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police border integrity unit says police responded to a call about a dead person in Hope, east of Vancouver, and then called investigators who were part of the massive manhunt for Jenkins.

The real estate developer and investor was wanted in California on first-degree murder charges after the mutilated body of his ex-wife Jasmine Fiore was found in a trash bin in Buena Park, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are "now able to confirm that a deceased person that was found in a motel in Hope, British Columbia is, in fact, Ryan Jenkins," Pound said.

This Jenkins fella seems like a prick, but he should not have committed suicide.  At least we will not have to pay to house and feed his sorry behind for twenty years and then kill him.

College students bombarded with the personal political views of their professors are being urged by talk-show host Sean Hannity to fight back with hard evidence of purported indoctrination.

“All you college kids out there, check your state laws, check your campus laws,” Hannity said on his national radio program.

“Get your little tape recorders if legal, and I want you to start recording these left-wingers. Bring it to this program and we’ll start airing it every single time on this program. I’m sick of this indoctrination. I’m sick of this left-wing propaganda.”

Hannity’s call to action comes in the wake of the case of Rebecca Beach, a 19-year-old freshman at Warren County Community College in Washington, N.J., who, as WND first reported, was sharply rebuked by an English professor for her announcement of a campus program featuring decorated Iraq war hero Lt. Col. Scott Rutter.

I am shocked colleges allow professors to tell students personal opinions in classs-students are there for learning facts, not opinions.

Continental Express Flight 2816 smelled like diapers. It had no food and a full toilet. Its 47 passengers had been stranded on a tarmac in southern Minnesota since after midnight.

“They are getting really upset – you know, with the plane,” the captain told her dispatcher just before 3 a.m. on Aug. 8.

Recordings released Friday of conversations among the captain, dispatcher and staff for another airline at the Rochester, Minn., airport expose a breakdown that kept the plane sitting on the tarmac for almost six hours – for no clear reason – and triggered a Department of Transportation investigation.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood released the recordings along with conclusions from his department’s investigation exonerating ExpressJet, the regional carrier that operated the flight for Continental Airlines.

Instead, he criticized Mesaba Airlines – which was in charge because it had the only employees left at the airport – for refusing to let the passengers inside the terminal because all security personnel had left for the night.

“There was a complete lack of common sense here,” LaHood added. “It’s no wonder the flying public is so angry and frustrated.”

Wow!  And I thought the federal government was terrible at doing things, this Meseba Air crew at the airport takes the cake.  They are awful, and the head of the crew that allowed this to happen needs to be let go.  How awful for this to have happened.

The Scottish government has decided to release Lockerbie bomber Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, a State Department official confirmed to NBC News on Wednesday.

NBC, quoting the unnamed official, said a statement was expected to be released once an official announcement by Scotland was made.

Scottish Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill said Wednesday that he had informed the families of the victims that he had come to a decisions about what to do with al-Megrahi and would make a formal announcement Thursday afternoon in Edinburgh, the Scottish capital.

Sky News television and the BBC reported Wednesday that al-Megrahi will be released from prison on compassionate grounds. The BBC added that his release had been expected before the end of the week. Neither network cited the source of its information.

Al-Megrahi, 57, has terminal cancer.

Compassionate grounds?  He was not compassionate towards all of those people on the plane.  So what if he hs prostate cancer—have a surgery to take out the prostate and he will be fine; he may even live another 10 or 20 years!  I am not buying that he is terminally ill.

Lockerbie bomber to be freed – TODAY

The settlement follows a long-running effort by the U.S. government to penetrate Swiss bank secrecy and catch tax evaders. The United States had been seeking a federal court order demanding that UBS identify the American holders of 52,000 accounts. The Swiss government vowed to prevent such a disclosure, leading to weeks of negotiations and Wednesday’s announcement.

"We will be receiving an unprecedented amount of information," IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman said Wednesday morning. "This agreement represents a major step forward with the IRS’s efforts to pierce the veil of bank secrecy and combat offshore tax evasion."

The process could take a year.

Schulman said the deal sends an "unmistakable message" to tax dodgers: "Wealthy Americans who have hidden their money offshore will find themselves in a jam," he said.

The Swiss government has agreed to work with the United States on similar requests for disclosure involving other Swiss banks, Schulman said in a conference call with reporters.

If you have any money hiding in any bank accounts in Switzerland, get them out now.

Michael Jackson’s personal physician will be charged with manslaughter within the next two weeks, a law enforcement source told FOXNews.com.

The source initially said Dr. Conrad Murray could be arrested as soon as next Wednesday — but investigators have decided to execute one more search warrant, likely at a Los Angeles pharmacy, next week in an attempt to gather more evidence against him. The arrest is now expected the following week.

Murray isn’t the only doctor who faces criminal charges in connection with Jackson’s death on June 25. A law enforcement source told FOXNews.com that Jackson’s longtime dermatologist, Dr. Arnold Klein, will be hit with charges related to medical malpractice. Investigators are still building their case against Klein, and he will not be arrested for at least another two weeks, the source said.

I didn’t see this coming.  Why am I not surprised.

Scientists in Israel have demonstrated that it is possible to fabricate DNA evidence, undermining the credibility of what has been considered the gold standard of proof in criminal cases.

The scientists fabricated blood and saliva samples containing DNA from a person other than the donor of the blood and saliva. They also showed that if they had access to a DNA profile in a database, they could construct a sample of DNA to match that profile without obtaining any tissue from that person.

“You can just engineer a crime scene,” said Dan Frumkin, lead author of the paper, which has been published online by the journal Forensic Science International: Genetics. “Any biology undergraduate could perform this.”

This just begs of the question of, “Has anyone accidentally fabricated DNA?”.

Dr. Frumkin is a founder of Nucleix, a company based in Tel Aviv that has developed a test to distinguish real DNA samples from fake ones that it hopes to sell to forensics laboratories.

The planting of fabricated DNA evidence at a crime scene is only one implication of the findings. A potential invasion of personal privacy is another.

A kit already to test this?  Isn’t that an interesting tidbit.  They will be making money off of this for sure.

You can buy them online — or at NBC Universal’s retail store in New York.

Some analysts say it’s good business, that NBC is simply offering what people want to buy. They point out that the adult version of the “YES WE DID” shirt ($25) was so popular, it sold out on the Web site.

But others note that there is no merchandise available that shows support for the other side of the political aisle. And they question whether the political bent of the items on sale are healthy for a corporation that operates an impartial news outlet.

Some of NBC’s item descriptions would seem to support that notion: “Bring reform to your refrigerator. Or at least keep company with the President while you’re at work, with the Barack Obama Magnet,” one item description reads.

“From Yes We Can to Yes We Did! Celebrate Barack Obama’s historic victory with the new ‘Yes We Did’ Unisex T-Shirt,” reads another.

But if your favorite color in the red, white and blue just happens to be red, you’re out of luck.

There are no t-shirts or refrigerator magnets for George and Laura Bush, and NBC did not say whether it ever sold Bush items after his victory in 2000.

Seems to me that NBC/Universal supports a particular political party.

They spent their nights jumping in and out of strange cars, trolling otherwise empty streets lined with decaying storefronts and boarded-up homes. Many sold sex to support drug habits or children left in the care of worried, hardworking grandmothers.

Even when they were picked up for drugs or prostitution, nights in jail looming, they called home to let their families know they were OK. Then, one by one, the calls stopped.

Since 2005, nine women who lived at the edges of the poor community in this small North Carolina city have disappeared. Six bodies were found along rural roads just a few miles outside town, most so decomposed that investigators could not tell how they died. At least one of the women was strangled, and all the deaths have been classified as homicides. Three women are still missing.

Police will not say whether they suspect a serial killer, but people in the community about 60 miles northeast of Raleigh do, and they’re impatient with law enforcement efforts to investigate the slayings.

After the latest body — that of 31-year-old Jarneice Hargrove — was found in June behind a burnt-out house that was once a crack den, local law enforcement and state police formed a task force. In July, the FBI got involved.

I find it absolutely preposterous that it has taken this long for a task force to be formed to bring resources together to solve these cases.

The World Trade Organization backed the United States Wednesday in a major trade battle with China, issuing a ruling that could ease tight controls and open markets for U.S. makers of everything from DVDs to books and music downloads.

The decision came down decisively against Beijing’s policy of forcing American media producers to route their business through state-owned companies. It will not yield immediate revenues in Hollywood or Silicon Valley, and it may take sanctions – or the threat of them – to force China to ease access for U.S. companies to the world’s largest marketplace.

Still, U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said the decision will help “level the playing field for American companies working to distribute high-quality entertainment products in China.”

I didn’t even know China required this!  Will this mean that some prices will start to come down within the next year?  I hope so.

The Associated Press reported the main findings of the then-confidential ruling last month, but the public release of the 464-page document on Wednesday revealed dozens of smaller decisions that support the complaints of trade associations representing record labels such as EMI and Sony Music Entertainment; publishers including McGraw Hill and Simon & Schuster; and, to a lesser extent, the major Hollywood studios of Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount, Universal and 20th Century Fox.

These associations say discriminatory Chinese rules are costing them millions each year in lost business opportunities.

“The Chinese system for distributing U.S. films to Chinese audiences is among the most restrictive and burdensome in the world,” said Dan Glickman, chairman of the Motion Picture Association of America.

The National Inquirer reported Wednesday that John Edwards is the father of his mistress’s child.

Eyewitness News is working to get independent confirmation.

A newspaper source said Edwards, a former North Carolina senator and twice presidential candidate, underwent secret DNA tests that show he fathered Rielle Hunter’s daughter Frances.

Hunter appeared with the child at a federal grand jury hearing in Raleigh last week.

Where is Maury when you need him; he needs to say, “John Edwards, you ARE the father!”.

First the ship reported it had been attacked in waters off Sweden. Then it sailed with no apparent problems through one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. And then it disappeared.

The Arctic Sea, a Maltese-flagged cargo ship, was supposed to make port in Algeria with its cargo of timber on Aug. 4. More than a week later, there’s no sign of the ship or its Russian crew.

Piracy has exploded off the coast of lawless Somalia — but could this be an almost unheard of case of sea banditry in European waters?

“If this is a criminal act, it appears to be following a new business model,” Marine intelligence expert Graeme Gibbon-Brooks told Sky News on Wednesday.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev ordered the country’s defense minister on Wednesday to take “all necessary measures” to find the missing cargo ship and, if necessary, to free its crew, the Kremlin said. Wives and other relatives of the crew members issued an appeal to the Russian government to carry out a full-scale rescue mission, using all of Russia’s special services.

How the hell can something like this happen?  How can these pirates hide this ship like this.

A teenager required hospital treatment after being attacked by a gang brandishing a snake.

In what police suspect may have been a racist assault, the 14-year-old boy was held down by his attackers in Bristol before one of the group forced a python to sink its fangs into him, leaving him with two deep puncture wounds.

Paramedics identified the type of snake after showing internet pictures to the victim on a mobile phone.

The boy is believed to be of Afro-Caribbean descent. Two other boys aged 16 and 17 were being interviewed by police yesterday about the incident.

How the hell do teenagers get a snake?  And then force it to bite someone?  These teenagers need some serious jail time.

Next year’s census will determine the apportionment of House members and Electoral College votes for each state. To accomplish these vital constitutional purposes, the enumeration should count only citizens and persons who are legal, permanent residents. But it won’t.

Instead, the U.S. Census Bureau is set to count all persons physically present in the country—including large numbers who are here illegally. The result will unconstitutionally increase the number of representatives in some states and deprive some other states of their rightful political representation. Citizens of “loser” states should be outraged. Yet few are even aware of what’s going on.

In 1790, the first Census Act provided that the enumeration of that year would count “inhabitants” and “distinguish” various subgroups by age, sex, status as free persons, etc. Inhabitant was a term with a well-defined meaning that encompassed, as the Oxford English Dictionary expressed it, one who “is a bona fide member of a State, subject to all the requisitions of its laws, and entitled to all the privileges which they confer.”

Thus early census questionnaires generally asked a question that got at the issue of citizenship or permanent resident status, e.g., “what state or foreign country were you born in?” or whether an individual who said he was foreign-born was naturalized. Over the years, however, Congress and the Census Bureau have added inquiries that have little or nothing to do with census’s constitutional purpose.

By 1980 there were two census forms. The shorter form went to every person physically present in the country and was used to establish congressional apportionment. It had no question pertaining to an individual’s citizenship or legal status as a resident. The longer form gathered various kinds of socioeconomic information including citizenship status, but it went only to a sample of U.S. households. That pattern was repeated for the 1990 and 2000 censuses.

The 2010 census will use only the short form. The long form has been replaced by the Census Bureau’s ongoing American Community Survey. Dr. Elizabeth Grieco, chief of the Census Bureau’s Immigration Statistics Staff, told us in a recent interview that the 2010 census short form does not ask about citizenship because “Congress has not asked us to do that.”

Authorities said a 86-year-old woman charged with shoplifting wrinkle cream and other items from a Chicago grocery store has been arrested 61 times since 1956.

Ella Orko was being held on $10,000 bail after her arrest Sunday afternoon on the city’s North Side after she allegedly stuffed $252 worth of groceries into her pants — including cosmetics, salmon, batteries and instant coffee.

She was charged with felony shoplifting.

Police said Orko has gone by as many as 20 aliases in the past.

Court records indicate that she has now been arrested 61 times and has 13 convictions for shoplifting.

She was caught the first time in 1956 in Chicago for petty larceny and again in 1958 for grand larceny.

She needs to stay in jail.

Last year, lawmakers excoriated the CEOs of the Big Three automakers for traveling to Washington, D.C., by private jet to attend a hearing about a possible bailout of their companies.

But apparently Congress is not philosophically averse to private air travel: At the end of July, the House approved nearly $200 million for the Air Force to buy three elite Gulfstream jets for ferrying top government officials and Members of Congress.

The Air Force had asked for one Gulfstream 550 jet (price tag: about $65 million) as part of an ongoing upgrade of its passenger air service.

But the House Appropriations Committee, at its own initiative, added to the 2010 Defense appropriations bill another $132 million for two more airplanes and specified that they be assigned to the D.C.-area units that carry Members of Congress, military brass and top government officials.

Because the Appropriations Committee viewed the additional aircraft as an expansion of an existing Defense Department program, it did not treat the money for two more planes as an earmark, and the legislation does not disclose which Member had requested the additional money.

We have deficit spending in Washington, and Congress has decided to spend it on this?  Someone needs to be eleted out of office.

A California dad is refusing to take down the tattered and torn American flag that’s been flying on his lawn in Fresno for almost a year, despite complaints from neighbors on his military-heavy block and from a national veterans group that says he’s mistreating the Stars and Stripes.

Even passersby have phoned Louis Haros, demanding that he take down his weather-beaten flag immediately.

But Haros, a Vietnam veteran, told his son last September that he’d wave that flag until he comes home from Iraq.

And a promise is a promise.

“I made a promise to him that it won’t come down until he’s home,” Haros told FOXNews.com on Tuesday. “Well, it’s still there. I feel if I bring it down and something happens to him … I don’t know.”

Paul Haros is already back on U.S. soil after his second tour in Iraq. He and his dad spoke yesterday when he landed in Wisconsin to undergo medical checks and to relinquish his weapons. But Louis Haros says the flag won’t come down until Paul returns to Fresno.

Wow!  His son is back home now, the flag needs to come down–its the law!  U.S. Title 36, Chapter 10, Section 176, covers such acts.  Subsection e states “The flag should never be .. displayed … in shuch a manner as to permit it gyo be easily, torn, soiled, or damaged in any way”; subsection k states that when the flag “is no longer a fitting emblem for display, [it] should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning”.  My souce for the law quotes is

A 78-year-old Carroll woman says she’s so tired of seeing President Barack Obama on the airwaves that she’s selling her television sets – two of them.

Deloris Nissen, a retired nurses’ aide and former Kmart employee who was raised on a farm near Audubon, placed a classified advertisement with The Daily Times Herald for Friday’s paper.

In the $5.50 ad, Nissen tells readers she has two television sets for sale.

The reason: “Obama on every channel and station.”

In an interview Nissen said she is serious about selling two TVs – and genuine about her disgust with what she believes to be an overexposed president.

“I just got tired of watching him on every channel,” Nissen said. “I thought, my gosh, does he ever stay at the White House?”

An officer in the Boston Police Department was suspended yesterday for allegedly writing a racially charged e-mail about Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. to colleagues at the National Guard, a law enforcement official said. Mayor Thomas M. Menino compared the officer to a cancer and said he is “gone, g-o-n-e” from the force.

The law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said Officer Justin Barrett referred to the black scholar as a ” jungle monkey” in the letter, written in reaction to media coverage of Gates’s arrest July 16.

What nerve!  Racist bastard!

The 911 caller who reported two men possibly breaking into the home of black Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. did not describe their race, acknowledged they might just be having a hard time with the door and said she saw two suitcases on the porch.

Cambridge police on Monday released the 911 recording and radio transmissions from the scene in an effort to show they had nothing to hide, but the tapes raised new questions about how and why the situation escalated.

Gates’ July 16 arrest on a disorderly conduct charge sparked a national debate about whether the professor was a victim of racial profiling. Gates, returning from a trip to China, and his driver had forced their way through the front door because it was jammed, and the charge was later dropped.

This makes me wonder who made the arrest an issue of race first.

Former Home Secretary Jacqui Smith has suffered a major setback in her legal battle with American ’shock jock’ Michael Savage after her officials were accused of banning him from the country on racial grounds.

Emails written by Home Office officials privately acknowledged the ban on Mr Savage would provide ‘balance’ to a list dominated by Muslims – and linked the decision to Gordon Brown and Foreign Secretary David Miliband.

The officials admitted their action could look ‘duplicitous’ and cited his ‘homophobia’ as a reason the move would receive public support.

Banning someone for the sake of balance?  Fire them all!!

Lured by promises of chewing gum then allegedly raped in a shed by four boys barely older than her, an 8-year-old Liberian girl is now in foster care and living with strangers after being shunned by her family.

The alleged sexual assault in Phoenix and reaction by her family have sparked an international outcry, reaching all the way to the president of Liberia, the home country of the girl’s family and the four young suspects.

“I think that family is wrong. They should help that child who has been traumatized and they should make sure that they work with the U.S. law authorities to see what can be done about the other young boys who have committed this offense,” Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf told CNN. “Not only should they abide by the law, but they too need serious counseling because clearly they are doing something, something that is no longer acceptable in our society here.”

The only word for the actions of this family is amazing!  How dare they shun her for her being raped–she has done nothing wrong.

The domestic terrorist known as the Olympic Park Bomber says the U.S. government should think twice about transferring Guantanamo Bay detainees to the federal Supermax prison in Colorado, which holds some of America’s most notorious criminals.

Eric Robert Rudolph, who is serving a life sentence for a series of bombings that killed two people and wounded scores of others, exclusively told FOX News in a letter dated June 30 that he doubts the Guantanamo detainees will become his fellow inmates at the Supermax prison in Florence, Colo., about 90 miles south of Denver.

“They do not want the detainees’ high powered lawyers focusing their ire on Supermax,” Rudolph wrote to FOX News. “Washington built a nice little black hole where they throw their unmentionables and they do not want a bunch of New York lawyers shining any light in here.”

Normally, I do not agree with Rudolph, but this time I do; especially being he now lives in this prison.  We really need to reconsider this decision by President Obama.

One of the eight suspects charged in the robbery and murder of a Florida couple told authorities he was paid between $20,000 and $50,000 to kill them, The Daily Beast reported.

Two sources with direct knowledge of the situation, and who requested anonymity fearing possible reprisals, told the Web site that Leonard Patrick Gonzalez Jr. informed authorities he was paid to take out a hit on Byrd and Melanie Billings.

Apparently deterred by rising unemployment in the United States, the number of Mexican immigrants who crossed the border dropped sharply in the past year to the lowest level in a decade, even while undocumented workers already here are opting to stay.The analysis of census data from both the U.S. and Mexican governments, being released Wednesday by the Pew Hispanic Center, highlights the impact of the economic downturn on Mexican immigrants, many of whom enter the United States illegally.

This is the best news I’ve heard in a long time.  I’m glad to see  fewer illegals are coming over.  As long as people follow the law and cross the border legally, I have no problem with anyone migrating into the USA, but you have to come in legally.

The former head of the traffic safety agency, Dr. Jeffrey Runge, told The New York Times that he was urged to withhold the findings to avoid antagonizing members of Congress who warned the agency against lobbying states. Runge said transit officials told him he could jeopardize billions of dollars of its financing if Congress thought the agency had crossed the line into lobbying, the Times said.

Critics say that the failure of the Transportation Department to pursue the role of driving distractions in car crashes has resulted in traffic deaths and allowed multitasking while driving to grow.

The research findings were obtained by the Center for Auto Safety and Public Citizen through Freedom of Information requests, the Times said. The newspaper posted the documents on its Web site Monday night.

Friends of Gates said he was already in his home when police arrived. He showed his driver’s license and Harvard identification card, but was handcuffed and taken into police custody for several hours last Thursday, they said.

The police report said Gates was arrested after he yelled at the investigating officer repeatedly inside the residence then followed the officer outside, where Gates continued to upbraid him. “It was at that time that I informed Professor Gates that he was under arrest,” the officer wrote in the report.

Gates, 58, declined to comment today when reached by phone.

It sounds like he got hostile with police, and they gave him a chance to calm down, he did not do so, and they arrested him; that is not racism, that is the police officer doing his/her job!   Great work to the Harvard area Police Department.

It’s not just cultural influences. Doctors say young girls are reaching puberty earlier than previous generations – sometimes at ages as young as 7.

“In general, the trend for the onset of puberty in girls is becoming younger,” said Dr. William Lagarde, a pediatric endocrinologist at WakeMed in Raleigh.

According to scientific studies, the age of puberty in girls has fallen from 11 to 10 in the past two decades.

An 11-year-old Ohio boy is helping ease his family’s financial burdens, one toy at a time.

Zach McGuire is selling his toys to raise money for his family, which like others across the country, has bills piling up and a home in jeopardy.

The youth said the idea came up during a conversation with his father.

“You can’t live in toys, or eat toys,” he told CNN television affiliate WNWO. “Even though they are fun, you don’t need them.”

Zach plans to use the proceeds for a good cause: helping his unemployed father.

Tom McGuire, a licensed contractor in Toledo, Ohio, has not had a job since December. The economy is partly to blame, he said, adding that he did a job last summer and never got paid.

As the general contractor on the job, he said, he was financially liable for materials and the work of two subcontractors. “I’m out $30,000,” McGuire said.

The father said he is looking for work and is not relying on money from his son’s toy sales. But he appreciates his effort.

“Zach has a big, giving heart,” McGuire said. “He came to me with this idea. He wants to contribute.” Video Watch how Zach McGuire is helping his family »

It’s not the first time Zach has helped those in need. In 2005, he sold Kool-Aid for victims of Hurricane Katrina and raised $400. A few years later, it was “Cocoa for California,” which he sold to help wildfire victims.

“I am very proud of him,” McGuire told WNWO. “He is an 11-year-old boy not living the life of an 11-year-old.”

Zach said everyone can do something.

“Even though they don’t feel like they could do anything, they could do a Kool-Aid stand, like me,” he said. “It’s what you’re doing that matters and how you’re helping people.”

A small business owner, $500,000 payroll, ten employees and no health care plan. A new 8% no health care tax penalty will be assessed on this guy at $40,000. If you do not provide health insurance you get penalized 40 grand, which means this guy would have to lay off one employee making $50,000 to make up for the new tax.

Police in Florida are seeking another person of interest in the home-invasion killings of a Florida couple known for adopting special needs children.

Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan identified the latest person wanted for questioning in the murders of Byrd and Melanie Billings as Pamela Laverne Long.

Long has several aliases and is currently in hiding or on the run, Morgan told reporters Wednesday, holding up a photo of her at a news conference. She is a realtor who is well known in the Gulf Breeze area near where the robberies and killings occurred in Pensacola.

Wow!  This just gets more and more interesting as it developes.

It is one of boldest attacks on federal forces since President Felipe Calderon launched his national war on drugs.Mexico’s national security spokesman Monte Alejandro Rubido said the 11 men and one woman were investigating crime in President Felipe Calderon’s home state of Michoacan, which has been a center of his crackdown on organized crime.

An Idaho woman face charges that she had sex with a 14-year-old boy that she was hired to watch in August 2007.

KXLY-TV reported Tuesday that 28-year-old Summer Nelson, of Post Falls, was charged Monday with four counts of lewd conduct with a child.

Court records say Nelson was a friend of the boy’s mother. Police say the abuse was reported in December 2008, after the boy’s mother grew suspicious of Nelson’s attention Nelson toward the boy.

Investigators say Nelson told the boy’s siblings that she was in love with their brother. Detectives say Nelson and the boy had at least four sexual encounters.

What was she thinking?  How the hell can a 28 year old woman possibly fall “in love” with a boy.

After taking multibillion-dollar bailouts from the federal government, some of the nation’s biggest banks are declining to lend a hand with a different financial mess: the California budget stalemate.

The banks, including JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp., Wells Fargo & Co. and Citigroup Inc. and some regional banks, are trying to pressure lawmakers to end the impasse by warning that, after Friday, they won’t accept IOUs issued by the state. The move would leave many businesses and families with pieces of paper and fewer options for getting their money immediately.

Former U.S. lawmaker and Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney and several other human rights activists remained in an Israeli prison Thursday after refusing to sign a deportation form that they claim is self-incriminating.

In a press release from the Green Party, McKinney said the form states that the Spirit of Humanity, a Greek-flagged relief boat carrying 21 activists, medical supplies, cement, olive trees and children’s toys en route to Gaza, was violating the Israeli blockade and trespassing the country’s territorial waters.

“We were in international waters on a boat delivering humanitarian aid to people in Gaza when the Israeli Navy ships surrounded us and illegally threatened us, dismantled our navigation equipment, boarded and confiscated the ship,” she said in a statement, adding that they were immediately taken into custody.

“Immigration officials in Israel said they did not want to keep us, but we remain imprisoned,” she said.

They can keep her!  Good riddance!

A member of Howard Stern’s “wack pack” was cited yesterday for violating federal court rules by recording the sentencing hearing of swindler Bernard Madoff. Ivy Silberstein, who is known as “Ivy Supersonic,” was caught recording the U.S. District Court proceeding by Federal Protective Service officers, according to an order signed by Judge Denny Chin. The order, a copy of which you’ll find below, does not indicate why Silberstein was recording the Madoff sentencing. Chin ordered the return of the 42-year-old Silberstein’s “recording device,” but directed that the Madoff recording be deleted first. Federal court rules bar reporters (or audience members) from recording court proceedings. Additionally, anyone entering a federal courthouse is required to check their cellphones with security guards. It is unclear whether Silberstein was in Chin’s courtroom or in one of two “overflow” rooms where the Madoff sentencing was simulcast. Silberstein, whose web site describes her as a “hat designer to the stars,” did not respond this morning to a message left on her voicemail. She was issued a summons for violating court rules, Chin reported.

Damn!  The fed is serious about this!  What are they hiding?  Congress needs to know about this!

WASHINGTON —  The Supreme Court ruled Monday that a group of white firefighters in Connecticut were unfairly denied promotions because of their race, reversing a decision endorsed by high court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.

The 5-4 ruling poses a potential complication to Sotomayor’s nomination, with confirmation hearings set to start in July.

In the high-profile, controversial case, white firefighters in New Haven, Conn., argued they were discriminated against when the city tossed out the results of a promotion exam because too few minorities scored high enough on it.

Justice Anthony Kennedy authored the opinion in favor of Frank Ricci and his fellow firefighters who sued the city of New Haven.

“The city’s action in discarding the tests violated (federal law),” the Supreme Court majority wrote Monday, adding that the city’s “race-based rejection of the test results” could not be justified.

The city argued its action was prompted by concern that disgruntled African American firefighters would sue. But that reasoning didn’t hold sway with the court’s majority.

“Fear of litigation alone cannot justify the city’s reliance of race to the detriment of individuals who passed the examinations and qualified for promotions,” the court ruled.

This decision, like many of the close cases before the high court, divided along its familiar ideological lines. Kennedy was joined by the four conservatives on the court in issuing the majority decision.

The court’s more liberal members joined Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s dissent which she read from the bench. “The white firefighters who scored high on New Haven’s promotional exams understandably attract the court’s sympathy,” she said. “But they had no vested right to promotion.”

The firefighters are expected to hold a press conference Monday afternoon in New Haven.

Twenty firefighters — 19 white and one Hispanic — who were denied promotions in New Haven, Conn., claimed city officials discriminated against them because they were more concerned about potential complaints of Civil Rights Act violations than their performance on advancement exams.

The white firefighters argued discrimination is discrimination no matter what color it takes, and therefore, the city did violate the Civil Rights Act in not promoting the white and one Hispanic firefighters.

Sotomayor was one of three appeals court judges who earlier ruled that New Haven officials acted properly.

The reversal could be used as ammunition by some senators who don’t want to see Sotomayor confirmed.

Right on!  A city’s “fear of litigation” should not be enough to discriminate against one race only because the other race didn’t pass the test.

The U.S. military is tracking the North Korean ship shown here, called the Kang Nam.

The U.S. military is tracking a flagged North Korean ship suspected of proliferating weapons material in violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution passed last Friday, FOX News has learned.

The ship, Kang Nam, left a port in North Korea Wednesday and appears to be heading toward Singapore, according to a senior U.S. military source. The vessel, which the military has been tracking since its departure, could be carrying weaponry, missile parts or nuclear materials.

“It is believed to be ‘of interest,’” a senior U.S. official told FOX News.

This is the first suspected “proliferator” that the U.S. and its allies have tracked from North Korea since the United Nations authorized the world’s navies to enforce compliance with a variety of U.N. sanctions aimed at punishing North Korea for its recent nuclear test.

The ship is currently along the coast of China and being monitored around-the-clock by air.

When undercover detectives busted Jose and Maximo Colon last year for selling cocaine at a seedy club in the New York City borough of Queens, there was a glaring problem: The brothers had not done anything wrong.

But proclaiming innocence was not going to be good enough. The Dominican immigrants needed proof.

“I sat in the jail and thought … how could I prove this? What could I do?” Jose, 24, recalled in Spanish during a recent interview.

As he glanced around a holding cell, the answer came to him: Security cameras. Since then, a vindicating video from the club’s cameras has spared the brothers a possible prison term, resulted in two officers’ arrest and become the basis for a multimillion-dollar lawsuit.

The officers, who are due back in court June 26, have pleaded not guilty, and New York Police Department officials have downplayed their case.

But the drug corruption case is not alone.

On May 13, another New York Police Department officer was arrested for plotting to invade a Manhattan apartment where he hoped to steal $900,000 in drug money. In another pending case, prosecutors in Brooklyn say officers were caught in a 2007 sting using seized drugs to reward an informant for information. And in the Bronx, prosecutors have charged a detective with lying about a drug bust captured on a surveillance tape that contradicts her story.

Elsewhere, Philadelphia prosecutors dismissed more than a dozen drug and gun charges against a man last month when a narcotics officer was accused of making up information on search warrants.

The Colon brothers’ harrowing experience began on an ordinary evening at a Delicias de Mi Tierra, where they would sometimes drink and play pool in the evenings. This night, the pool table was closed. They instead sat at the bar. Security cameras ended up filming their every move.

The brothers barely moved from the same spot for about 90 minutes as the undercovers entered the bar and mixed with the crowd. Moments after the officers left, a backup team barged in and grabbed six men, including the brothers.

But what the surveillance tape doesn’t show is striking: At no point did the officers interact with the undercovers, nor did the brothers appear to be involved in a drug deal with anyone else. Adding insult to injury, an outside camera taped the undercovers literally dancing down the street.

The revelations in New York have triggered internal police department inquiries, transfers of commanders and reviews of dozens of other arrests involving the accused officers. Many drug defendants’ cases have been tossed out. Others have won favorable plea deals.

The misconduct “strikes at the very heart of our system of justice and erodes public confidence in our courts,” said Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson.

Despite the fallout, authorities describe the corruption allegations as aberrations in a city where officers daily make hundreds of drugs arrests that routinely hold up in court. They also note none of the cases involved accusations of organized crews of officers using their badges to steal or extort drugs or money for personal gain — the story line of full-blown corruption scandals from bygone eras.

Peter Moskos, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, agrees the majority of narcotics officers probably are clean. But he also believes the city’s unending war on drugs will always invite corruption by some who don’t think twice about framing suspects they’re convinced are guilty anyway.

“Drugs are a dirty game,” Moskos said. “Once you realize it’s a game, then you start playing with the rules to win the game.”

Life quickly deteriorated for Max and Jose Colon after their arrest.

They owned a successful convenience store in Jackson Heights, but lost their license to sell tobacco, alcohol and lottery tickets. The store closed a week before their case was dismissed.

“My life changed completely,” Jose said. “I had a life before, and I have a different existence now. … Now, I’m not able to afford to live in my own house or care for my children.”

Jose has found construction work, while Max commutes two hours to Philadelphia to work at a relative’s bodega. They stay away from the old neighborhood, where they say ugly rumors about them persist.

The brothers have filed a $10 million false arrest lawsuit against the police department, the officers involved and the city.

“I’m angry because, why’d it happen to me? I know a lot of people … they don’t go the right way and they can get away with it,” Max said. “I’m young and I try to go the right way and boom, this happened to me. So I’m angry with life, too.”

Wow!  But when you make an herb illegal that now obviously has so many benefits medically, then the government should not be surprised when the people rise up and defy it.  This rissing of the people happened during the prohibition of alcohol, and its happening now–get used to it until the prohibition is stopped!!

The four of the Chinese Muslims, or Uighurs, released to Bermuda from the Guantanamo Bay prison told FOX News that they are innocent, glad to be free and hold no grudges against the United States for their captivity.

The men, who range from 31 to 38 years old, also said they think life in China, where they face persecution, is worse than life at Guantanamo.

With the help of a translator, they said they didn’t know anything about Al Qaeda or Usama bin Laden, despite past allegations that they had aided the terror mastermind’s escape.

China worse  that Gitmo?  Wow!  According to the politically correct press, nothing is worse than Gitmo.

School district spokesman Fernando Gallard confirms that the male teacher threw the stapler when his class became unruly. Gallard said the stapler bounced off a wall and struck the student.

The mother said the incident happened as her son was passing the classroom and stopped at the door to talk with a friend.

Why was this child stopping at another classroom?  Shouldn’t he have been in class, learning?  This is as much the child’s fault for not being in class.  So what happened to the child’s teacher?

The Secret Service was hunting Friday for a gun-toting New York man who told a Utah bank manager he is “on a mission to kill” President Obama.

New Yorker Daniel James Murray purportedly made the threat after withdrawing nearly $13,000 from his savings account at the First National Bank in St. George, Utah.

A warrant for his arrest was issued Friday.

Murray’s whereabouts are unknown, but a court affidavit indicated he is from New York and has recently been in California, Utah, Georgia, Oklahoma and possibly Texas.

He has at least eight registered firearms, the Secret Service told the Salt Lake City Tribune.

“We are on a mission to kill the President of the United States,” Murray told the bank manager after he made the withdrawal on May 27, according to a criminal complaint filed in Salt Lake City federal court.

The drama began to unfold when Murray opened a savings account at the bank with $85,000 on May 19.

“With all this mess going on under President Obama with banks and the economy,” he purportedly ranted at the time. “I’m sure if citizens happen to lose their money, they will rise up and we could see killing and deaths.”

He came back eight days later to withdraw $12,698, but bank employees told him he lacked proper identification.

“We are 94 million miles from the sun, and are in between the sun and moon, and the eagle that flies between them and it’s a giant step for mankind,” he snarled. “If I don’t get this money, someone is going to die.”

“I have traveled thousands of miles to be here and know things that are going to happen,” Murray’s tirade continued. “The banking system will fail and people will die. There will be chaos in the world.”

Murray would not accept a check and demanded bills no larger than $50.

The bank manager was summoned and approved the transaction.

Then Murrray blurted out his assassination threat and left, according to the complaint.

The next day, Murray returned to the bank, closed out his account and vanished.

This guy is a nut.  Find him and lock him up.  Hopefully his photo will be released soon–I will post it when that does happen.

As Wal-Mart Stores Inc. opens about 150 new or expanded stores in the U.S. in 2009, the company expects to hire about 22,000 people for new positions.

Those positions include plenty of cashiers and stock clerks, but the world’s largest retailer will also be adding store managers, pharmacists and personnel workers.

Wal-Mart is holding its annual shareholders meeting on Friday, and employees from its stores around the world are spending the week in Bentonville at company headquarters.

Wal-Mart, still the target of criticism from union-backed groups for its pay and benefits, has improved its health insurance coverage and opened it to full- and part-time employees. The company says 94 percent of its employees have health coverage, either through Wal-Mart or another family member.

“At Wal-Mart, we offer competitive pay and benefits and real opportunities for our associates to advance and build careers,” Wal-Mart Vice Chairman Eduardo Castro-Wright said. “Job creation is just one way in which we’re working hard every day to help people across this country live better.”

Other employee benefits include a 401(k) plan, stock purchases and discounts for workers making in-store purchases.

Awsome!  Someone needs to do some job creation, and being the federal government isn’t doing  very well at it, Wal-Mart might as well do so.  Congradulations to Wal-Mart.

State authorities are investigating an allegation that a former Spring Lake police officer offered to pay a convict $10,000 to kill another officer, according to the town’s police chief.

An inmate wrote a letter to the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office last month alleging that Sgt. Darryl Eugene Coulter approached him about killing an unnamed officer. Coulter is one of two sergeants who were arrested in May as part of an investigation of the Spring Lake Police Department.

According to the inmate’s letter, which is in Coulter’s court file, the target was an officer who Coulter said turned in Coulter and Sgt. Alfonzo D. Whittington.

Wow!  This is an interesting turn of events; I think someone knows he is guilty of what he was charged.

Microsoft confirmed on Tuesday that it is planning for Windows 7 to hit retail shelves and start showing up on new PCs on October 22.

To reach that milestone, Microsoft plans to wrap up development of the operating system by the middle or end of next month, Senior Vice President Bill Veghte said in an interview.

Hundreds of “presentments” – or accusations assembled by citizen grand juries – are scheduled to be given to courts, sheriffs, prosecutors, judges and legislators across the United States by July 4 alleging that Barack Obama is ineligible to be president of the United States and his occupancy in the Oval Office constitutes treason.

 

The accusations are being assembled by the citizen grand juries that have been meeting in recent weeks around the country, and one organization, American Grand Jury now has posted an online procedure that provides a step-by-step instruction manual for those who are concerned about Obama.

American Grand Jury spokesman Bob Campbell’s site includes information on the history of grand juries, their powers, rules, evidence, forms, etiquette and how to file the resulting claims.

While there are other groups organizing and holding grand jury meetings too, Campbell told WND that his is the largest group, having convened five already along with two state grand juries and it plans to sponsor another half dozen in the next 30 days.

Where’s the proof Barack Obama was born in the U.S. or that he fulfills the “natural-born American” clause in the Constitution? If you still want to see it, join more than 370,000 others and sign up now!

“Sooner or later some court or many courts will formally indict Obama from our presentments or [a] complaint,” he said. “Our goal is to convene and conclude 12 to 13 grand juries before July 4 rolls around and to serve our presentments as many as 200 times with courts, sheriffs, prosecutors, judges or legislators across the land.

This is going to get interesting.  If he is truely not eligable to be president, everything he has done up to this point should be voided out.

A motorist whose car was stolen and later involved in a fatal drunken-driving accident is among the defendants being sued for the deaths of a New York teen and his friend, both killed in the crash.

The owner of the car, David Jaber, had left it running while he stopped at a New York City deli at 1:30 a.m. Feb. 1 when Kenneth Guyear allegedly hopped into the Kia and drove away, running over Robert Ogle, 16, and Alex Paul, 20, the New York Daily News reported.

Police said Paul was walking Ogle home because the teen had had too much to drink at a birthday party, the Daily News reported. Two adults who hosted the party also were named in the suit.

He left the car running while he went inside?  I don’t do that down in NC!  What the hell was he smoking, drinking, or needling to even think such a thing is okay?  No wonder he is being sued!!  I’d sue him too.

An Associated Press photographer captured 19-year-old Army specialist Zachary Boyd fighting off a Taliban ambush in Afghanistan — in his underwear.  The photo of Boyd, clad in the pink “I  *heart* NY” printed boxers  ended up on Tuesday’s front page of the New York Times.

His mother, who lives in Keller, said her son was sleeping when someone opened fire on his base and he didn’t have time to put on his uniform or boots.

Boyd called his parents on Monday to let them know he might be in the paper. His father said that after he logged onto the New York Times’ Web site he laughed for the next five minutes.

“I knew he was a boxer guy, I knew that for sure,” Tommy Boyd told WBAP. “I did not know they were pink, and I didn’t know they said, ‘I love New York.’”

Boyd is a 2007 graduate of Keller Central High School.

It’s been two months since 2-year-old Cori pulled the gold stud from her left earlobe, and the piercing is threatening to close as her mother, Maggie Anderson, hunts for a replacement.

It’s not that the earring was all that rare — but finding the right store has become a quest of Quixotic proportions.

Maggie and John Anderson of Chicago vowed four months ago that for one year, they would try to patronize only black-owned businesses. The “Empowerment Experiment” is the reason John had to suffer for hours with a stomach ache and Maggie no longer gets that brand-name lather when she washes her hair. A grocery trip is a 14-mile odyssey.

The word discrimination comes to mind–and it works both ways; recognize before you cause a backlash you in the black community will regret.  Whites have been suffering from reverse discrimination for years when it comes to finding jobs (affirmative action)–and I’m tired of it.

During a speech to Duke University’s graduating class, Oprah talked about the secrets and joys of success. Among them: owning a mansion and a jet.

“It’s great to have a nice home. It’s great to have nice homes! It’s great to have a nice home that just escaped the fire in Santa Barbara,” she told the students. “It’s great to have a private jet. Anyone that tells you that having your own private jet isn’t great is lying to you.”

She went on to explain that “you haven’t completed the circle of success until you help someone else move to a higher ground and get to a better place.”

The golden nugget here is the jet part. In these times of hair-shirt capitalism and envy politics, the wealthy have been going to great lengths to pretend they don’t enjoy luxury or want nice stuff. If Oprah were like most of the faux-populist rich today, she would have said something like, “I don’t need private jets, in fact I’m happier flying commercial and living in a small house. I like the simple life.” Of course, she would be lying.

Comedian Wanda Sykes pulled no punches as she skewered conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner — but her morbid cracks set some guests’ cringe-meters off the charts.

Sykes accused Limbaugh of treason, compared him to Usama bin Laden and wished for his physical collapse as she roasted the favorite target of liberals Saturday night at the Washington Hilton.

“Rush Limbaugh said he hopes this administration fails, so you’re saying, ‘I hope America fails,’ you’re like, ‘I don’t care about people losing their homes, their jobs, our soldiers in Iraq.’ He just wants the country to fail. To me, that’s treason,” Sykes said.

“He’s not saying anything differently than what Usama bin Laden is saying,” she continued, before addressing the guest of honor, President Obama. “You know, you might want to look into this, sir, because I think maybe Rush Limbaugh was the 20th hijacker. But he was just so strung out on OxyContin he missed his flight.”

The crowd groaned, Obama smiled and Sykes may have noticed a little discomfort in the room.

“Too much?” she asked.

But then she piled it on:

“Rush Limbaugh, ‘I hope the country fails’ — I hope his kidneys fail, how about that? … He needs a good waterboarding, that’s what he needs.”

Obama joined the crowd in laughing at the crack about Limbaugh’s “kidneys.”

But White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs suggested Monday that Sykes’ bit was considered in poor taste.

Just days after Larry Faison settled into his new job as town manager in October 2007, a two-page letter hit his desk.

The letter urged Faison to investigate alleged wrongdoing by Police Chief A.C. Brown and one of his supervisors, Sgt. Darryl Coulter.

It was the first of many complaints sent anonymously to Faison’s office and other town leaders between October 2007 and February of this year.

The Fayetteville Observer obtained the letters — as well as e-mails — which cited dates and times of alleged instances of double-dipping, false arrests, planting of drugs on suspects and other abuses of power by some of the town’s police officers.

Police sources said nine current and former officers drafted the letters, which became more intense as time went by.

“Few of the officers do not know what else we can do to let you guys know that things in the department are going downhill,” one letter said. “We really feel like we have no one who is listening to our concerns, especially when you have officers breaking the law. We want the town staff to handle the concerns within but we are getting to a point where we no longer feel like the staff is listening. … Please help!!!”

Alderman James O’Garra acknowledged that town leaders became aware of the letters, but he said they didn’t take them seriously because Faison repeatedly assured the board that the allegations were unfounded.

Wow!  It seems to me than Alderman O’Garra should have depended on more that Faison’s word once more than a few of those letters appeared.

An 11-year-old western Pennsylvania boy has pleaded not guilty to adult charges that he fatally shot his father’s pregnant fiancee at their home Feb. 20.

Wednesday’s formal arraignment for Jordan Brown was the first step in moving the case through Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. But Brown’s defense attorneys say they still plan to ask a judge to move the case to juvenile court, where a judge would have jurisdiction over the case only until Brown is 21.

If he’s convicted as an adult, Brown could face up to life in prison.

Brown is accused of shooting 26-year-old Kenzie Marie Houk as she lay in bed in their farmhouse in Wampum, killing her and her unborn son.

He does not need life in prison, he needs psychiatric help!

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) — The chief’s resignation follows two big developments –the arrest of two Spring Lake police officers, coupled with the Cumberland County Sheriff saying his office can’t trust statements or information gathered by Spring Lake in its investigations.

 

A member of the police department is accusing Chief A.C. Brown of staying up late at the office Tuesday night to shred documents.

On Wednesday around 4 p.m., Sheriff Earl “Moose” Butler hand delivered a court order to Spring Lake police.

The order says that on May 6, Police Chief Brown was seen at his office at 2:30 a.m. shredding material and that a day earlier another police officer, Sgt. Mark Thomas, was seen shredding material from a filing cabinet.

The latest order, the sheriff says, prohibits any document from being destroyed.

“Well, the order has stated that they don’t want any more documents shredded out here,” Sheriff Butler said. “That’s ordered by the DA and resident Superior Court Judge Lynn Johnson.

He says Chief Brown says he has not been shredding anything.

“He was not moving anything or destroying any documents that should not have been,” Sheriff Butler said.

A sheriff’s department spokesperson says it will be up to the SBI not the sheriff’s department to enforce the latest court order.

Also earlier in the day, Sheriff Butler said in a strongly worded letter hand delivered to Spring Lake Police Chief A.C. Brown, he can’t trust statements or information gathered by Spring Lake in its investigations.

“The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office can no longer trust statements, information or reports from any member of the Spring Lake Police Department to establish an official investigation, to determine probable cause for an arrest, or to develop sufficient grounds for a bill of information or indictment. This simply means that the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office shall not adopt or accept any future criminal investigations initiated or conducted by the Spring Lake Police Department until further written notice,” wrote Butler.

The sheriff said he wanted to make the policy clear to eliminate the possibility of any confusion or conflict of interest between his department and Spring Lake.

He also said Spring Lake police officers would not be allowed to go on any ride-alongs with deputies, will not be allowed to establish crime scenes, or exercise any police powers where a deputy is in command – or may assume command of the situation.

“In consideration of District Attorney Grannis’ statement that officers of the Spring Lake Police Department have shown a willingness to violate criminal law in their official capacity while on duty, to lack sufficient credibility in their official reports, and to exhibit the necessary integrity expected of a law enforcement agency, my Office can no longer rely upon the officers or the work product of the Spring Lake Police Department,” wrote Butler.

The District Attorney’s office also moved Wednesday to preserve all documents at the police department – getting a court order to prevent the destruction of any documents electronic or otherwise.

Spring Lake is a small community of about 8,000 located between Fayetteville and Raleigh. Two of its police officers – Sgt. Alphonzo Devonne Whittington, Jr. and Sgt. Darryl Eugene Coulter, Sr. – were arrested on Monday.

Coulter, 43, is charged with; 2 counts of felony obstruction of justice, 3 counts of second degree kidnapping (a felony), 1 count of felony breaking and entering, 2 counts of willful failure to discharge duty (a misdemeanor), 3 counts of simple assault (a misdemeanor), 3 counts of assault with a deadly weapon (a misdemeanor), 3 counts of assault by pointing a gun (a misdemeanor), and 3 counts of false imprisonment (a misdemeanor).

According to a grand jury indictment, the charges stem from an April 27, 2008, incident at a home on the 400 block of Vass Road.

Coulter allegedly broke into the home and assaulted three men. He forced them from the home with a handgun and a shotgun, kidnapped them, and then held them against their will by handcuffing them.

Coulter was supervising three other officers at the time and allegedly had no legal justification for what happened.

The indictments also allege that Coulter lied when he said he smelled marijuana during an investigation at local motel. Officers took $2,900 in cash from the room, and Sgt. Whittington is accused of later taking that cash from the department’s evidence room.

Whittington, 32, is charged with; 1 count of felony embezzlement, 1 count of obtaining property by false pretense, 3 counts of felony larceny, 3 counts of felony obstruction of justice, 2 counts of willful failure to discharge duty (a misdemeanor), and 1 count of solicitation to commit a felony (a misdemeanor). He is currently out on bond.

Officials say future indictments and arrests are likely.

The arrests are the result of an ongoing investigation by the SBI that began in 2007. The investigation was initiated at the request of the Cumberland County District Attorney.

Eyewitness News has learned the DA plans to dismiss more than 1000 misdemeanor cases, because he suspects some senior officers lied and fabricated facts in police reports.

It was also announced Monday that the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has taken control of the police department. Cumberland was already handling many of Spring Lake’s cases because it lost its felony investigative powers 18 months ago. That came after problems with the investigation into the death of 3-year-old Anikah Burr. Prosecutors say she was murdered by her mother’s boyfriend in 2006. The case has yet to come to trial.

State agents on Wednesday seized records from the Spring Lake Police Department after witnesses reported seeing Police Chief A.C. Brown and an officer shredding files.

Superior Court Judge E. Lynn Johnson ordered the State Bureau of Investigation to take control of all police files, including computer and cell phone records. The order cited a report that Brown was seen in the department until 2:30 a.m. Wednesday and that a Cumberland County deputy saw police Sgt. Mark Thomas shredding files on Tuesday.

Should those records have been seized back on Monday when the department was raided by the SBI?  Sheriff Moose, you need to have better control over them than this.

Five years ago, a shotgun blast left a ghastly hole where the middle of her face had been. Five months ago, she received a new face from a dead woman.

Connie Culp stepped forward Tuesday to show off the results of the nation’s first face transplant, and her new look was a far cry from the puckered, noseless sight that made children run away in horror.

Culp’s expressions are still a bit wooden, but she can talk, smile, smell and taste her food again. Her speech is at times a little tough to understand. Her face is bloated and squarish, and her skin droops in big folds that doctors plan to pare away as her circulation improves and her nerves grow, animating her new muscles.

Wow!  They have done a great job on her.  I am glad this can be done for people that need it done.

Two Spring Lake police sergeants have been arrested and their department has been stripped of its criminal investigation duties.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has full authority in the town, officials said, and has also assumed all 911 calls to the police department.

Stripping a police department of its duties is huge.  I have a feeling that more than these two will be arrested.  From what I hear from my friends at work, the Spring Lake police department is so corrupt, its unreal; and the officers will harass anyone they feel should be; and they go on power trips where they will try to get you on the smallest of things.  Its about damn time something is done about all of this in Spring Lake.

The Spring Lake Police Department has changed some of its policies and procedures since it was stripped of the power to investigate felonies two years ago, town officials said at a news conference this afternoon.

But the officials would not get specific about the changes.

Town Manager Larry Faison said Police Chief A.C. Brown is preparing a detailed report about the steps that have been taken. The report will be released to the public when it is completed “in a few weeks,” Faison said.

“We have challenges, and we have prioritized our concerns,” Brown said.

Brown, Faison and Mayor Ethel Clark answered no questions from reporters, leaving town aldermen and residents unimpressed.

“It was sorry,” Alderman James O’Garra said.

“I’ve heard it all before,” Alderman Richard Higgins said.

O’Garra and Higgins, my thoughts exactly.  They are a sorry excuse for use of flesh.

Africans have more genetic variation than anyone else on Earth, according to a new study that helps narrow the location where humans first evolved, probably near the South Africa-Namibia border. The largest study of African genetics ever undertaken also found that nearly three-fourths of African-Americans can trace their ancestry to West Africa. The new analysis published Thursday in the online edition of the journal Science. “Given the fact that modern humans arose in Africa, they have had time to accumulate dramatic changes” in their genes, explained lead researcher Sarah Tishkoff, a geneticist at the University of Pennsylvania. People have been adapting to very diverse environmental niches in Africa, she explained in a briefing.

In a normal year, 36,000 people die in this country of the flu. Now, this pig flu apparently doesn’t just hit the elderly.

A special grand jury that was asked to consider indictments in the investigation of the Spring Lake Police Department met Monday, but its actions were sealed, court officials said.

Monday night, the Spring Lake Board of Aldermen passed two resolutions in relation to the investigation.

The first resolution seeks an opinion from the state Attorney General’s Office about the legality of a 2007 order from Chief District Judge Elizabeth Keever. The order stripped the police department of the ability to handle felony crime investigations and turned that responsibility over to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

The board also authorized the search and hiring of a consultant to conduct another assessment of the Police Department. This assessment seeks to measure what progress Spring Lake officers have made in addressing problems identified by an earlier study.

Alderman Napolean Hogans said he felt both actions were needed to reassure the community.

“We feel like the community needs to have confidence that we’re moving forward,” Hogans said. “In other words, they should be able to know whether they are safe.”

Why seal them?  The public should know what is going on within the law enforcement of Spring Lake.

A Chicago alderman says he doesn’t mind that a businessman plans to open a hot dog stand in his ward and hire former convicts to work there, but he does object to the stand’s crime-linked theme.

Alderman Fioretti said Friday his Second Ward on the city’s West Side has major crime problems, so he thinks the stand’s name, Felony Franks, is simply not in good taste.

Fioretti also objected to several slogans, including: “Food so good, it’s criminal,” and “Home of the misdemeanor wiener.”

Stand owner Jim Andrews, though, says he thinks the tongue-in-cheek name and a menu that features such items as “burglar beef” and “chain gang chili dog” will help to erase some of the stigma that being a former convict carries.

I love the idea–keep it up.

Authorities in Rhode Island say they have evidence linking the accused “Craigslist Killer” to a hotel where a third attack occurred.

Philip Markoff’s fingerprints were allegedly found on a wall of the Holiday Inn Express in Warwick, R.I., where a stripper says she was tied up during an attempted robbery by a man she met through Craigslist, a law enforcement source told The Associated Press.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the 23-year-old medical student sent text-messages from the hotel.

Markoff is charged in the killing of a 26-year-old Julissa Brisman, who advertised erotic massage services on the classified ad Web site. He is also charged with robbing another masseuse in Boston.

Unless he just so happened to be in Rhode Island, and stated in that exact hotel room, he has no excuse, and neither does his girlfriend.  She needs to let him loose, he is a sad excuse for skin.

Carter Bank & Trust at 123 Rowan St. at 9:43 a.m., displayed a gun and dmanded money, according to a Fayetteville police news release.

The woman was carrying a note, the release said.

But she left without taking money after getting a call on her cell phone.

The woman was wearing a knee-length, dark-colored skirt and had a multicolored scarf or bandana on her head, the release said.

I cannot believe he is smirking with all of these federal and city agents around him, and in shackles. If I was him, whatever age he is, I would be frightened to be around this many agents. The agents should have found a way to accidently slap that smirk off of his face.

This week, the Supreme Court will consider the reverse discrimination claim of Marcarelli and a group of white firefighters. They all passed a promotion exam, but the city threw out the test because no blacks would have been promoted, saying the exam had a "disparate impact" on minorities likely to violate the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Besides affecting how race can be considered in filling government and perhaps even private jobs, the dispute also addresses broader questions about racial progress: Do minorities and women still need legal protection from discrimination, or do the monumental civil rights laws that created a more equal nation now cause more harm than good?

Also, beneath the specific details of the firefighters’ lawsuit lies an uncomfortable truth: On most standardized tests, regardless of the subject, blacks score lower than whites.

Reconciling that reality with efforts to ensure "justice for all" remains a work in progress — one that will be molded by the Supreme Court.

He is correct about what he says as far as indicators of the economy.  Wal-Mart does a lot of research so it knows what needs to be done to help its customers and club members. I also like what he says about labor unions–he doesn’t like them; and the new law being proposed will kill a lot of businesses.

Wow! If we apply the same punishment as we did to Don Imus, then Jamie Foxx should be fired! However, I do not support this punishment. In this country, we have free speech; I may not agree with what was said, but sometimes this is what happens.

If you build it, they will come. It’s a truism we’ve believed in for a long, long time. But forget the baseball reference. It is as outdated as the year “Field of Dreams” was released –- 1989.

Tea party tax protesters know why. The metaphor is a lie –- at least as far as the mainstream media are concerned. If you do something of note and the media choose not to cover it –- the issue might just as well not exist.

Such is the fate of Wednesday’s national Tax Day Tea Party. This mega-gathering of tax protesters is scheduled for every single Congressional district in the country. More than 500 events are planned. And the national news media have either been silent or shown contempt for the effort.

That’s not journalism, its blatant censorship that would amaze even George Orwell.

Something like a civil war has erupted between United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the branches of the world organization that are supposed to oversee, constrain and fund the U.N.’s sprawling central bureaucracy.

At issue is the accountability and effectiveness of the entire U.N. Secretariat — a ponderous bureaucracy that everyone agrees is in need of reform, but somehow continues to evade it. In some quarters, patience is apparently wearing thin.

As one sign of that, in a remarkable public slap at the secretary general, the U.N.’s powerful, budget-setting Fifth Committee, which represents all U.N. member states, late last week passed a resolution ordering him to throw out a plan that he claimed would transform the Secretariat into something more responsible and effective.

The committee said that Ban should try again — only much, much harder.

Wow!  Is it possible to be less effective than it already is?  It seems to me like the Fifth Committee is trying to allow Ki-moon to reform things, but he is going about it the wrong way.  To read the Fifth Committee’s resolution on the issue, go here.

A Minnesota pet sitter accused of animal abuse for letting a potbellied pig triple its weight in less than a year has been sentenced to a year on probation and ordered to pay veterinary bills that could exceed $1,000.

The pig, named Alaina Templeton, ballooned from her normal 50 pounds to 150 pounds in just nine months. Its collar became embedded in its neck and had to be removed surgically.

The portly porker even was the subject of joke on “Saturday Night Live.”

Fifty-three-year-old Mary Beesecker of Houston, Minn., entered an Alford plea Monday to one count of animal cruelty, meaning she admits no wrongdoing but acknowledges she’d likely be convicted.

Beesecker maintained Monday she took good care of Alaina.

The 6-year-old pig died last November, cause unknown.

Are we sure the pig didn’t die of too much pork?  lol.  Surely the DA’s Office and police in Minnesota have worse things to attend to other than the weight of a pig?  Something else going on here not being said?

Pedro Guzman has been an American citizen all his life. Yet in 2007, the 31-year-old Los Angeles native – in jail for a misdemeanor, mentally ill and never able to read or write – signed a waiver agreeing to leave the country without a hearing and was deported to Mexico as an illegal immigrant.

For almost three months, Guzman slept in the streets, bathed in filthy rivers and ate out of trash cans while his mother scoured the city of Tijuana, its hospitals and morgues, clutching his photo in her hand. He was finally found trying to cross the border at Calexico, 100 miles away.

These days, back home in California, “He just changes from one second to another. His brain jumps back to when he was missing,” said his brother, Michael Guzman. “We just talk to him and reassure him that everything is fine and nobody is going to hurt him.”

If you don’t know how to read or right at the age of 31, and you have lived in the United States all of your life, that is your own damn fault!

Portugal decriminalized drugs in mid-2001. The effect on drug use has been a dramatic decrease at the same time when drug usage rates in the rest of Europe have been increasing. Glen Greenwald has more.

Drugs should be legal because you own your body, and the idea of a consensual crime where you are both victim and perpetrator, is anti-freedom and irrational. But for pragmatists out there who can’t get on board because they think that legalizing drugs will result in more drug usage, here is the evidence that it will not.

A 17-year-old boy suffered a head wound and was knocked unconscious when a woman jumped to her death off a New York City mall balcony and landed on him.

Derrick Mulnoz lost consciousness briefly and had a gaping gash on his head after the unidentified suicide victim leaped over a railing at the Queens Center Mall, hitting him as she fell.

The 56-year-old woman died after plunging several stories. She had been at the shopping center with two teenagers.

The woman’s estate will pay for his treatments, right?  That would be the only right thing to do, would it not?  Surely, no one expects the mall to pay for it, right?

At least one representative of the venerable news agency, which recently declared that it was tired of the Internet riding on its coattails, was apparently unaware the agency had an official YouTube video channel.

The Associated Press’ official YouTube channel includes codes for embedding videos on other sites.

The AP recently sent a letter to WTNQ-FM in Tennessee–an affiliate of the Associated Press, by the way–accusing the country music radio station of copyright violation for embedding videos from the AP’s official YouTube channel on its Web site, according to a station employee’s blog. The AP channel includes embed code for its videos, which allows any Web site or blog to embed the videos on their sites–a feature that can be turned off.

Separately, on Monday the Associated Press said that it would go after news aggregators and other Web sites that “walk off with our work under misguided legal theories.”

Wow.  They didn’t know YouTube’s AP channel worked like that?  That is too damn funny.  AP Legal needs to sit with AP Web and work things a bit better for the AP.

The family of a father and two sons allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant last year reportedly is suing the city of San Francisco, claiming its “sanctuary city” policy contributed to their deaths.

Anthony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16, were returning from a picnic when they were gunned down on June 16, allegedly by Salvadoran national Edwin Ramos, 22.

The case prompted public outcry after it emerged that Ramos was convicted of two gang-related felonies when he was 17, but local officials did not contact federal agencies to determine his immigration status.

The city’s sanctuary city status for illegal alliens, caused a person, even though conviced of felonies at 17, not to be deported; and the family of his latest victims are suing the city, stating that if the city had followed federal law, he may not have been in the country to do what he did.  Finally, someone is telling San Francisco how things should be; I hope the family wins, and makes the city change its rules.  If anything, the federal government should have done something about this a long time ago by withholding federal transportation money for not complying with federal law.

Somali pirates on Wednesday hijacked a U.S.-flagged cargo ship with 20 American crew members aboard, FOX News has learned.

 

The 17,000-ton Maersk Alabama was carrying emergency relief to Mombasa, Kenya at the time it was hijacked, said Peter Beck-Bang, spokesman for the Copenhagen-based container shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk.

These people have nerve.   How dare they hijack a US-flaged ship.  Lets put Somalia in the list of wiesels.

Hurricane experts at Colorado State University have scaled back their prediction for the Atlantic and now say this will be an average season with 12 named storms, including six hurricanes. They say two of them could be major.

There was a team of destiny out there, all right. It’s the North Carolina Tar Heels, and the final chapter of their story was about as heartwarming as a demolition derby.

Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson and North Carolina won a national championship a season or more in the making, stomping out Michigan State’s inspirational run Monday night with a 89-72 blowout that wasn’t even that close.

All the lonely people.

The echo that is so often heard late at night across social networks.

In the latest case, a 16-year-old girl in Maryland learned that one of her Facebook friends, a boy in Oxford, England, was in distress. Late on Wednesday night, he wrote: “I’m going away to do something I’ve been thinking about for a while then everyone will find out.”

The girl didn’t know the boy’s address. But she immediately felt this was a serious situation and told her parents.

They contacted the British Embassy, who in turn got in touch with Scotland Yard and the local police in Oxford.

All they had was a name. But they worked quickly to narrow the possibilities down to eight addresses.

They sent police to each of these addresses, an d within three hours of the Facebook message being written, the boy was found.

He had taken a drug overdose, but was alive.

Congradulations to the girl from Maryland and her parents for attempting to help this person from attempting suicide.   To the parents, great thinking getting the British Embassy; and great job for them to take them seriously enough to get Scotland Yard and the Oxford PD.  Together, you saved this person’s life.  Way to go.  This could have happend only in this day and age.

North Korea’s defiant rocket launch next tests the U.N. Security Council, which quickly approved an emergency meeting Sunday afternoon to weigh possible ways of punishing the isolated communist nation.

 

Mexico’s mission to the United Nations set the meeting for 3 p.m. EDT (1900 GMT), spokesman Marco Morales said. Mexico holds the 15-nation council’s presidency this month.

That approval came after Japan submitted a formal letter requesting an emergency session of the United Nations council that handles threats to international peace and security. “We received a letter and there will be a meeting,” Morales said.

Responding to criticism from around the world, Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Saturday that a new law that critics say makes it legal for men to rape their wives will be studied and possibly sent back to parliament for review.

Karzai said he ordered the Justice Ministry to review the law, and if anything in it contravenes the country’s constitution or Shariah law, “measures will be taken.”

The law, signed by Karzai last month, is intended to regulate family life inside Afghanistan’s Shiite community, which makes up 10 percent to 20 percent of the country’s 30 million people.

So its legal to rape your wife, because you are married?  I do not think so!  Rape is making a to man or a woman have sex with you, wheather they want to or not–and that isn’t right, no matter where you are.  Karzai needs to rethink this, quick!!

A lawyer for suspended NFL star Michael Vick told a bankruptcy court Thursday that the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback has lined up a construction job for when he gets out of prison.

Vick, 28, appeared in court for the first time in his bankruptcy case to explain to a judge how he plans to emerge from his financial problems.

How the mighty have fallen!  He goes from a multi-millionaire in the NFL and now has to work construction to get out of  bankrupcy.    After allowing dog fights on his property, this can be considered poetic justice for the dogs.

Arpaio, who has served as Maricopa County’s sheriff since 1992, said he has dedicated the last 30 years working with the federal government, inside the Justice Department and as a Drug Enforcement Administration official, and he would think lawmakers would want to hear about his experience.

“You think they would have called me just to get my expertise — if nothing else — about the Mexican-U.S. border. But instead they get one of my biggest critics — a Mesa police chief who doesn’t like me going into his town arrested illegals — and a couple other people,” he said.

“These congressmen never had the courtesy to ask me to speak,” he said.

Arpaio also defended his policing methods, saying they are both constitutional and effective in lowering crime rates.

“We investigated 147,000 people booked into our jail under 287. And 23,000 murderers all the way down we proved are illegal so they can not get back on the street. That’s why crime has gone down in this area,” he said.

The sheriff said he has invited congressional critics to come to Arizona to observe his operations, but so far has got no response.

“I’m just enforcing the law that I took an oath of office to enforce. And nobody’s going to deter me or scare me away,” he said. “They can go after me all they want, but I’m very comfortable the way I run my operation.”

Doing this for 30 years and no respect for his expertise along the border with Mexico.  Shameful!!

In a written statement released Wednesday morning, Stevens suggested he would have fared better in his losing November election had it not been for the “unfair” case against him.

The prosecutor that screwed up by conducting himself badly should reimburse Former Senator Ted Stevens his election expenses.  The prosecutor is a disgrace to justice.
